The 2012 Business and Industrial Appreciation Day (BIAD), set for October 23 at 11:30 a.m. at the Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center, will honor Douglas Scientific of Alexandria and recognize the company’s growth, success and community contributions throughout the Alexandria region. Citizens and business representatives are invited and encouraged to attend.

Tickets to attend the event are currently on sale at the Alexandria Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce.

Criteria for selection of the receiving company are based upon factors including jobs the company creates for the community and/or region, investments the company has made to facilities within Douglas County and community contributions that the company makes throughout the community.

Douglas Scientific LLC, located in Alexandria, began as a division of Douglas Machine Inc. in 2009 and was incorporated as a wholly owned company in 2010. The company provides patented Array Tape automation that enables laboratories around the world to rapidly process billions of genetic samples and chemical compounds.

Since its founding, Douglas Scientific has experienced rapid growth, both in terms of product demand and workforce, and currently employs more than 70 professionals at its facility in the Alexandria Industrial Park.

The staff and leadership of Douglas Scientific will host an open house for the community from 2 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23 following the BIAD luncheon. Anyone interested in learning more about the company and in taking a facility tour is invited to attend.

Douglas Scientific is located at 3600 Minnesota Street in the Alexandria Industrial Park (just southwest of Douglas Machine, off Highway 27 West).

The BIAD program is a joint effort of the Chamber and the AAEDC, and is focused on providing an opportunity for the Alexandria regional community to say, “Thank you for being a vital part of our community.”
