While out fishing with friends, Elnora Helms from Nelson Gables in Alexandria became the 2,000th guest aboard a pontoon of the Alexandria Lakes Area Chapter of Let’s Go Fishing for Seniors.

Helms was presented with flowers by Jim Schoeberl, director of operations, and Ron Fenelon, chapter president. “It was so fun to be the 2,000th guest,” Helms said. “I’m in shock and will never forget this day.”

The mission of Let’s Go Fishing is to give back to the community’s seniors some small token of appreciation for all they have done to build the community. Let’s Go Fishing strives to provide seniors with an opportunity to spend quality time on area lakes with friends, families and acquaintances.

In addition to the senior program, Let’s Go Fishing conducts programs for youth and intergenerational. Boating excursions are conducted by experienced volunteers of the community who have completed safety courses required by Let’s Go Fishing. This year, 169 volunteers spent 1,836 hours completing 198 trips.

For more information or to volunteer, contact Jim Schoeberl at (320) 763-6698.
