Football: State-ranked Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley powers past Brandon-Evansville
The Chargers gained just 70 yards on offense in the loss.
The Brandon-Evansville football team ran into a buzz saw on homecoming as Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley came into Brandon and handed the Chargers a 54-0 loss on Friday night.
The Wolverines are beating teams by almost 50 points per game this season on their way to a 5-0 start. They are averaging 57.6 points per game and the 54 they scored against the Chargers was actually the second lowest point total of the season for them.
“Very tough night tonight,” Brandon-Evansville head coach Tim Pattrin said. “We made many mistakes and had a lot of turnovers against a great team in CGB. Our young team kept fighting till the end and stuck together, and I’m proud of them for that. We will learn from this and get ready for another tough team in Wheaton this week.”
The Chargers fumbled the ball eight times and lost six of those against an aggressive Wolverines’ defense. An interception gave Brandon-Evansville seven turnovers on the night.
The Wolverines used those takeaways to build a 48-0 lead by the break. CGB scored four times in the first quarter and three more touchdowns in the second quarter. Damon Gibson had a hand in four of his team’s eight touchdowns as he threw for two scores, ran for another and finished off an interception with a touchdown in the second quarter.
Brandon-Evansville had 70 yards of total offense against Minnesota’s top-ranked team in 9-man football. Things won’t get much easier for the Chargers as they try to bounce back against eighth-ranked Wheaton (4-1) this Friday night. The Warriors’ only loss came in a 30-12 game against CGB on September 21.
