Volleyball: Parkers Prairie upends Brandon-Evansville
The Brandon-Evansville volleyball team won the first set against Parkers Prairie last Thursday but couldn’t hold on as the Panthers won 3-1 in a Little Eight Conference match.
The Chargers took the first set 25-20 and came close to grabbing a 2-0 lead over the second-place team in the conference. Parkers Prairie was able to rally with a 25-23 win in the second before edging Brandon-Evansville 25-22 over the next two sets.
“In sets two and three, we let leads at the end slip away,” Chargers head coach Kelly Olson said. “Our coverage was standing up, our free ball passing was off the net, our setter was slow getting to the ball and untimely serving errors, sometimes in a row, killed us. We gave points away in bunches with our loss of focus and Parkers took advantage.”
Megan Friedrich led the way at the net with 12 kills. Emma Friedrich and Caroline Jansen added seven apiece and Mariah Hansen finished with four.
“Emma Friedrich played very well tonight,” Olson said. “Her net play, hitting and blocking, was great for us, as was her serving. Our other middle, Mariah Hansen, also played well on the net for us. If we have these two girls solid for us the rest of the season, only good things will happen. I think we won the battle on the net, but it was off the net where we lost.”
The win moved Parkers Prairie to 5-1 in LEC play and dropped the Chargers to 3-3 in the league. Underwood was atop the standings through the weekend after getting off to a 5-0 start.
