Alexandria swimming and diving: Cardinals pick up fifth straight victory
After the season began with an 0-2 start, the Cardinal girls’ swimming and diving team has stepped up its competitive edge, winning the last five straight meets and propelling Alexandria into a three-way tie for second in the Central Lakes Conference.
The latest win came over CLC opponent Fergus Falls Thursday night. Alexandria was able to win just five events, but in each of those events, the Cardinals scored in double figures to rack up 55 points and swim away with a 101-82 win over the Otters.
“The Cards’ win over the Otters was their first in over a decade,” said head coach Mark Storhaug. “The Cards recorded 10 season bests, and two by Kalli Bowser, which included a brow-raising performance in the 100 free, slicing over one second from her previous best.”
Heidi Moe also had a large improvement, dropping nearly two seconds in the 50 free.
Megan Bristow took the top spot in the 200 free with a time of 2:11.74, while Kate LeBrasseur won the 200 IM in 2:28.94, Madalyn Winger won the 500 free in 6:01.02 and Hannah Eklund took the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.68.
Rachel Peterson, Bristow, Jaylen Olson-Rodel and Beth Burnham won the only relay event, finishing the 200 free relay in 1:49.69 for first.
Alexandria will be at Sauk Rapids-Rice tomorrow, Thursday.
