Alexandria volleyball: Cardinals sweep St. Cloud Tech
Alexandria improved to 7-1 in Central Lakes Conference play with a sweep of St. Cloud Tech Thursday night, setting up a battle with the undefeated Fergus Falls Otters tomorrow night, Thursday.
The Cardinals were at Rocori last night, Tuesday, and a win there would put them just one game back of the conference leaders heading into tomorrow’s contest.
Alexandria took a while to get going against the Tigers, winning the first game in a close 25-20 set before coming away with an easy 25-13 second set victory. Set three saw the Cardinals win by six, 25-19.
“The night was an excellent opportunity to get each player some well-deserved playing time,” said head coach Becky Schlicting.
Amanda Christianson was a big part of the win as she had 13 kills for the Cards. Adrianne Wensman and Emily Kuennen added five apiece and Jenni Wild had three.
“We also tried a few different things with our offense this evening, allowing each of our three setters to play two sets each,” said Schlichting. “It’s great to be able to recognize the depth of our bench and utilize it in game time situations.”
Senior setters Nicole Canavati and Allie Noetzelman led the way with 13 and 12 assists, respectively.
Alexandria’s defense was led once again by Shaneé Herd with 15 digs, Wild with 13 and Natalie Watkins with seven.
“Our back row play and defense continues to set our team and offense up for success,” said Schlichting.
