Alexandria swimming and diving: Cardinals fifth at Maroon and Gold Invitational
Alexandria finished fifth at the annual Maroon and Gold Invitational, competing in the Bronze Division.
“The Alexandria girls’ swimming and diving team was in action this weekend, returning after a generation’s absence, to the Maroon and Gold Invitational at the U of M Aquatic Center,” said Cardinal head coach Mark Storhaug. “The Cards ended in a respectable fifth position in the early Bronze division behind 11 top-eight finishes, two of which were notched by Megan Bristow, Kate LeBrasseur and Kalli Bowser.”
Bristow finished eighth in the 200 free and sixth in the 100 breaststroke, while LeBrasseur was fifth in the 200 IM and eighth in the 100 backstroke, and Bowser was fourth in the 100 free and sixth in the 100 back.
Other individual top-eight finishes went to Madalyn Winger, who was eighth in the 200 IM, Rachel Peterson, who was sixth in the 100 free and Hannah Eklund, who was third in the 100 breast.
Alexandria also had each relay finish in the top eight as well, with Bowser, Eklund, Winger and Beth Burnham eighth in the 200 medley relay, Peterson, Bristow, Jaylen Olson-Rodel and Burnham fifth in the 200 free relay, and Winger, LeBrasseur, Bowser and Peterson seventh in the 400 free relay.
Alexandria also had 13 best times, including two from Bristow and Heidi Moe.
“The most impressive improvements, however, came from Sam Ellis, who chopped off nearly 10 seconds in the 500 free, and Lily Clarstrom, who shaved over a second from her previous best in the 100 breast,” said Storhaug.
Alexandria will compete against Sauk Rapids-Rice tomorrow, Thursday.
