The Alexandria Area Arts Association (AAAA) announces its fall education line-up, which includes classes in acting, stage combat and make-up. Classes are offered to both adults and youth. Classes are:
Stage combat. Teaches the basics of safe and effective on-stage fighting and battle. Sign up for Stage Combat with a friend (class should have an even number). Classes are October 1, 8, 15 and 22 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and will be taught by Dan Perdue. It is restricted to ages 14 or older.
Drama 1. Explores the actors' relationship with the stage and theater in general, covering the basics of acting and the stage. Classes are October 2, 9, 16 and 23 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The class will be taught by David Christman and is restricted to ages 10 or older.
Drama 3. Explores the mental focus of an actor, including preparation and connecting on stage. Classes are October 18, 25 and November 1 and 8 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The class is taught by David Christman and is restricted to ages 10 or older. Drama 3 requires the completion of Drama 1 and 2.
Make-up for the stage. A four-class course that can be taken either as a course or as individual classes. Class participants will receive a personal Ben-Nye stage make-up kit. The course includes four classes:
• General stage make-up. Covers stage makeup, including highlights, lowlights and blending. It will be held October 9 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and taught by Deb Long and Daniel Walstad.
• Character and old age make-up. Explore special character make-up. The class will be October 11 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and will be taught by AAAA guest artist Daniel Walstad.
• Blood, wounds, scars and burns (spooky effect make-up). Explores the darker side of make-up. This class, taught by Ben Klipfel, Quincy Roers and Tom E Lee, will also cover latex application and blood effects. The class is October 18 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and is restricted to ages 12 or older.
• Fantasy make-up. Covers animals, spirits, ghosts and other fantasy applications. The class is November 13 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and will be taught by Quincy Roers.
The AAAA has been offering educational classes for the past year. This is the first offering for stage combat and make-up design. Classes during the winter and spring will also include voice, sound and lighting.
