First in duathlon

Janet Skoog, 70, of Alexandria finished first in her age division in the Athletica IG Duathlon in Bloomington last Sunday.

Skoog finished the 2-mile run/22-mile bike ride/2-mile run event with a total time of 2:23.59, finishing 15:57 ahead of the second place competitor.

CLC performer of the week

Sophomore Ellie Bergstrand was named the Central Lakes Conference performer of the week in girls’ tennis for her record at second singles.

Bergstrand has a 16-1 record after winning three matches last week.

Leland third

at Concordia

Alexandria’s Maggie Leland finished third at the Concordia University Invitational, helping her Vikings take the team title by four strokes.

Leland finished with an 8-over-par 152 for the tournament, while Glenwood’s Allie Ostrander tied for fourth with a 10-over-par 154.

Hole-in-one

Pryce Score of Kensington recorded his second hole-in-one of the season on September 15 at the Red Rock Golf Club.

Not only was it his second of the year at the course, it was his second of the year on the same hole.

Score aced the 130-yard, par 3 No. 8 while playing in tournament competition two weeks ago.

Vikingland Curling

The Vikingland Curling Club will be holding a community education open house October 10 and 17 from 7-9 p.m., and on October 24, league play will begin.

At the community education events, there will be a brief off ice instruction including curling terminology, etiquette and technique. 

Once on the ice, instructors will go over the basics of curling including throwing a stone and sweeping. At the end of the session a short game will be played. Participants are urged to wear layered, loose clothing and clean athletic rubber soled shoes such as sneakers. All other equipment is provided. Be sure to arrive at 6:45 pm.

Cost is $5 per person for both sessions

FCA Fields of Faith

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will hold Fields of Faith on Wednesday, October 10 at 7 p.m. at Jefferson High School’s Citizens Field.

This is a peer-to-peer movement with students from across the nation gathering on athletic fields to share personal stories and challenge each other to apply their faith to their lives.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be held in the Jefferson High School gymnasium.

United Cerebral

Palsy run

The first United Cerebral Palsy “Run for a Reason” 5K and 1K will be Saturday, October 13 at Westwood Church in St. Cloud.

Asics long-sleeved T-shirts will be given to the first 200 registrants.

The Alexandria Figure Skating Club will be holding learn to skate classes beginning Monday, October 15.

Alexandria Grid Club

Those interested in joining the Alexandria Grid Club, which supports the Cardinal football team, have three levels of support to choose from - level 1 at $75, level 2 at $125 and level 3 at $225.

Proceeds from this year’s membership drive will go to replace helmets and shoulder pads for the varsity, and new pants and pads for the junior high program.
