Letter - We are an unstoppable force

Diana Culp’s letter (September 12, 2012) was a cynical attempt to confuse readers about the breadth of efforts to protect animals. Supporting the Lakes Area Humane Society and helping animals in shelters is a core value of the humane movement.

To the editor:

Diana Culp’s letter (September 12, 2012) was a cynical attempt to confuse readers about the breadth of efforts to protect animals. Supporting the Lakes Area Humane Society and helping animals in shelters is a core value of the humane movement. The Humane Society of the United States helps advance that goal, but there’s so much more that we do. Billions more animals are also at risk, and Culp’s attempt to set up an either-or approach is a divisive effort to undermine our work.

Culp works for notorious Washington PR man Rick Berman, who has raked in millions of dollars from agriculture, alcohol and tobacco companies to run campaigns against public health and animal welfare groups. Further evidence of her credibility deficit: she continues to misrepresent her employment history, and was never a director for HSUS in the two years she worked for one of our affiliates.

Our movement represents mainstream values and is strong and growing. An estimated 20,000 groups work to safeguard animals. Together, we are an unstoppable force for good. To learn more and get involved, visit us at humanesociety.org.
