The Osakis tennis team’s domination of the Prairie Conference continued this year as the Silverstreaks won the individual tournament behind six first-place finishes on Saturday.
Osakis was in complete control throughout the day, winning all four singles spots and adding wins at second and third doubles.
“We are very happy with our play today in winning the Prairie Conference individual tournament,” head coach Ryan Maddock said. “All of our girls had outstanding days.”
Taylor Kraemer got things off on the right foot by coasting through the first singles bracket. After a first-round bye, Kraemer took care of her first opponent 6-1, 6-0 in the semifinals before taking care of Parkers Prairie’s Brenna Warren 6-4, 6-1 in the finals.
Lauren Silbernick and Hannah Baker followed suit at second and third singles, respectively. They each used the bye in the first round as the top seeds before winning their next two matches in straight sets to take the individual titles.
Hannah Szech had to persevere through a loss in the first set of the finals before pulling out a win at fourth singles. She matched up with Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa’s Cassandra Hoppe in a match that saw Hoppe take the first set 6-2.
Szech had to fight for everything she got just to force a third. She edged Hoppe 7-5 in the second before taking the decisive third set 6-3 for the win. She got to that match with a 6-0, 6-2 win over West Central Area’s Brittany Randt in the semifinals.
Angie Bowman and Katie Anderson came in as the fourth seed at first doubles and came away with a third-place finish. They won their first match 6-3, 6-0 in the opening round before falling to top-seeded Mattea Eckstein and Daisha Meyer in the semifinals. Bowman and Anderson bounced back from that by beating Parkers Prairie’s Brittany Shircliff and Renee Warren in the third-place match.
The rest of the doubles lineup was controlled by Osakis. Peyton Garcia and Katelyn Foster lived up to their first seed at second doubles with a 6-0, 6-3 win in the semis followed by a 6-3, 6-3 win in the finals.
Elyse Wiener and Ashley Kraemer had no problems disposing of their two opponents as well. After a first-round bye, they won 6-1, 6-1 before taking down West Central Area’s Dawn Cleveland and Taylor Endreson 6-3, 6-3 in the finals.
