Football: Ashby overwhelms Hancock

Between running and passing, Ashby quarterback Blake Ohren had a hand in 10 of the Arrow touchdowns against Hancock Friday night in an 80-0 shutout of the Owls in Pheasant Conference football.

“Blake is a smart kid who takes what the defense gives us,” said Arrow head coach Andy Campbell. “He has the freedom to audible to different plays and concepts based on what the defense presents.

“He is a very gifted athlete who can beat you with his feet and his arm; a true dual threat quarterback who’s developing into an outstanding leader.”

Ohren rushed for 207 yards and four touchdowns, then threw for 291 yards more on 20 of 27 attempts, hitting six receivers.

Reed Hanson was the main recipient of Ohren’s tosses, catching 12 times for 229 yards and five touchdowns.

Gage Olson had a big night on the ground, rumbling for 148 yards on 24 carries, scoring once.

Ashby’s defense finished the night with five sacks and five fumble recoveries as well as two interceptions.

“Hancock has the ability to stretch the field with their vertical pass threats and we were able to take that away with great defensive pressure and coverage,” said Campbell. “We take a lot of pride in creating and forcing turnovers, and we were able to do that via some big plays and persistent pressure all night.”

Ashby will host Ortonville on Friday night for homecoming.
