Football: First half lead doesn't hold up for Minnewaska
Three fourth quarter touchdowns by Lac qui Parle overturned a 21-14 Minnewaska lead and handed the Lakers their fourth straight loss of the season.
“We are all real disappointed that we couldn’t hang on and win this game,” said Minnewaska head coach Steve Hill. “We continue to give up too many yards on the ground.
“I thought we threw the ball well,” he said. “Austin Ostrander was able to find several receivers for big plays, especially in the first half. Jake Amundson, Riley Thompson and Sam Long all had big nights receiving. Jack Schultenover showed some big time speed on his 78-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.”
The Lakers got on the board with a 2-yard touchdown run by Greg Helander in the first quarter, then added two more touchdowns in the second on runs of 76 and 78 yards by Amundson and Schultenover, respectively.
The second half was all Eagles as they scored three unanswered touchdowns.
“Lac qui Parle was pretty strong up front,” said Hill. “They are big and have real good running backs.”
“Sam Long played a great game on defense. He led the team in tackles with 11. Gary Steffensen had nine solos, Nathan Snider had eight, Austin Ostrander six and Taylor Lundebrek five.”
