The Alexandria boys’ soccer team rebounded from a lopsided loss to St. Cloud Apollo last week by taking a 1-0 game over Fergus Falls on Thursday night.
The Cardinals and Otters played to a scoreless tie until the 87th minute. That’s when Grant Becker finally connected for the game winner after getting a shot by Fergus Falls’ Trey Edwards in net.
“The Cards came out strong and played a whole game,” Alexandria head coach Cahil Collins said. “They created many opportunities for themselves. I am very pleased with their effort and play.”
The Cardinals outshot the Otters 14-4 on the night. Zach Lamb earned the shutout in goal by turning aside all four of those.
The win erased what had been a five-game winless streak for Alexandria. The Cardinals moved to 4-5-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the Central Lakes Conference. They dropped the Otters to 1-10-2 overall and 0-6-1 in CLC play.
