The Alexandria Freemasons are excited to host the third annual Constitution Fest on Saturday, September 22 at Alexandria City Park at 2 p.m. The purpose is to celebrate the U.S. Constitution. The event is free.
Festivities will begin with the Freedom First Riders motorcycle group escorting the U.S. flag from downtown Alexandria and conclude at dusk with a patriotic fireworks display.
To start the afternoon, the local VFW club will perform the flag raising ceremony. There will be a large tent filled with information and displays of the U.S. Constitution, including a time line of the Amendments. Other highlights include Constitutional Trivia, kids' activities and a replica of the Declaration of Independence.
The National Guard will display some of their military machines and be on hand to answer questions. A shuttle will ferry people to and from the Runestone Museum for a free tour of their location.
Every family will receive a free pocket-sized copy of the U.S. Constitution, the Amendments and the Declaration of Independence and have a chance to win an official U.S. flag that was flown over the White House in Washington, D.C. on September 17 (National Constitution Day).
Several of the area's service clubs and fraternities will join in, and local food vendors will be on hand all day to offer a wide variety of food.
