Runestone Electric Association (REA) broke ground on Monday, August 27 to mark the start of construction on its new headquarters facility located at the existing Operations Center, south of Alexandria on Highway 29. The board of directors, management staff and others marked the occasion with golden ceremony shovels in hand.
Construction is under way on land adjacent to the south of the existing facility for outdoor material storage. Once the pole yard is moved, work will begin on the new office. Plans call for adding approximately 14,000 square feet of new office, remodeling about 4,000 square feet of existing space and adding a small garage for light vehicles presently stored downtown.
The new office is anticipated to be completed by late spring 2013 and will bring the REA workforce under one roof.
REA serves more than 13,600 customers in the rural areas of Douglas, Pope, Grant, Stevens, Otter Tail, Stearns and Todd counties.
