Volleyball: Osakis defeats West Central Area

Osakis had a battle on its hands Thursday night as the Silverstreaks took on West Central Area in Prairie Conference North action, winning 3-1 and staying unbeaten in their half of the conference standings. They are 9-3 overall.

“Other than game two, we played well,” said head coach Kirsten Wessel. “We had some let up and weren’t passing well.

“We were able to come back strong though and win the next two games.  It was nice to get the win in front of such a spectacular crowd. Our student section was incredible and really carried our momentum into the next games.”

“Tonight we battled and competed all night,” said WCA head coach Beth Hanson. “We are improving and finding out how great we can be.

“Once consistency kicks in, we are right where we need to be. We are so close. We had our opportunities to finish, but a lot of it came down to our own mistakes.

“Although it is odd to say, that’s an OK place to be right now, because it is all within our power to make the change,” she added. “Now we just need to find that extra amount to give and be willing to actually make the necessary changes.

“Osakis is a very good team, and we stayed with them. When we are on, we can play with anybody.”

Kelsey Hammer led the way for the Knights with 10 kills and 15 digs, while Christina Kruize added 12 assists. Kiersten Sabolik had 15 assists.

The Knights fell to 0-3 in conference play and are now 2-7 overall.

Osakis hosted the Prairie South leading Upsala last night, Tuesday, and will be playing at Browerville next Tuesday.

West Central Area was at Eagle Valley last night, Tuesday, and hosts Brandon-Evansville tomorrow, Thursday.
