Football: Brandon-Evansville rallies to top Hancock
The Brandon-Evansville football team overcame a 16-0 first-quarter deficit behind a spirited comeback in the final frame to beat Hancock 30-28 last Friday night.
The Chargers were trailing 28-14 entering the fourth quarter before they scored 16 points to secure the come-from-behind win. Billie Juul had a hand in both of those fourth-quarter scores as he punched one in from a yard out to make it 28-22 Hancock after a two-point conversion run by James Huisman.
That meant the Chargers still needed some late-game heroics in the game’s final minute. That’s exactly what they got when Juul connected with Craig Campbell on a 21-yard touchdown with 20 seconds left. Zach Carlson then punched in the game winner when he ran in the two-point conversion to give his team its first win of the season.
“Wow, what a game,” head coach Tim Pattrin said. “Our boys really showed their character today. Hancock has some great receivers that made some terrific catches in tight coverage. Even though they jumped out to a quick lead, our guys kept battling and kept their heads in the game.”
The Owls went to the air all night as they threw for 353 yards and four touchdowns. All of those scores came in the first half before Brandon-Evansville shut them out in the final two quarters.
The Chargers carried the ball 65 times for 275 yards and two touchdowns. Carlson led the way with 90 yards on 20 carries. Zack Henneman, Cody Lund and Juul all had 13 carries apiece and combined for 158 yards. Huisman ran for a second-quarter touchdown before Juul punched his in in the fourth quarter.
Juul was 4-of-9 for 76 yards passing with two touchdowns and no interceptions. His 15-yard touchdown pass to Carlson with 20 seconds left in the second gave his team some momentum, down 28-14 at the half.
The Chargers moved to 1-2 overall and in conference play. They travel to Ortonville this Friday night to take on a 0-3 Trojans team that has been outscored 178-58 so far this season.
