Card girls' tennis: Alexandria blanks Sartell

The Alexandria tennis team continued to pile up wins in convincing fashion last Thursday night as the Cardinals made easy work of Sartell in a 7-0 match.

Alexandria won every match in straight sets against the Sabres. Rebecca Lukes, Ellie Bergstrand and Carly Snell combined to give up just four games in their wins at the first, second and third singles spots. Bria Schueler wasn’t far off that pace as she won 6-2, 6-1 at the fourth singles spot.

The Cardinals did the same in the doubles lineup. The closest match came at first doubles where Jessica Larson and Jenna Hedstrom won 6-1, 6-3. The duos of Rachel Sjostrand and Marissa Wheeler and Miranda Sater and Kim Wilkins gave up just three games between them on their way to convincing wins.

“What can you say,” head coach Dave Ronning said. “The Cardinal girls’ tennis team is on fire right now…Sartell is a young up and coming team but will have to go through some growing pains before their day in the sun. Our girls are continuing to work on their games and continue to try new strategies.”

The win moved Alexandria to 13-1 overall and 5-1 in Central Lakes Conference play.
