Osakis runs past LPGE for second straight win

The Osakis football team got another dominant rushing performance from Brian Thorstad, Hunter Johnson and Drew Fearing as the Silverstreaks ran past Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 41-28 on Friday night.
It was the second straight win for Osakis after dropping its opening game of the season. The Silverstreaks and Thunder both used big plays to strike early and often in this one. Thorstad got Osakis going with a 42-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. The Silverstreaks never trailed in the game but all four of the Thunder's touchdowns came on plays of 40 yards or more. The final one came much too late as LPGE got a fumble return for a touchdown of 67 yards.
"I love the effort, but just not happy with our discipline on defense," Osakis head coach Bill Infanger said. "We were able to hold them on first down, second down, third down and then give up the big play. We'd just get guys out of position. Any time you play the option, it's responsibility football and it's assignment football and we didn't do a good job of playing our assignments tonight, and that's why we gave up 28 points."
The Silverstreaks were able to overcome that with a dominant ground game and a momentum-changing play on defense. Senior captain Austin Rollag was responsible for that as he forced a fumble inside the LPGE 10 yard line with less than a minute left in the half. The ball bounced into the end zone where Trey Erie jumped on it for a touchdown. Instead of a one-possession game at the half, it was 27-14 with Osakis taking all the momentum.
"That's that pitch option that we've been working on all week," Rollag said. "Everyone did their assignments. Our defensive end cracked down hard. Our corner came up with the pitch man. We both came up, and I hit him and Trey came up and made a great read on the ball and was able to get it before it went out of bounds."
The Thunder was able to get it back within one score at 27-20 after the half, but Osakis' run game was just too steady to get any closer than that. Fearing added an 18-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and another on a seven-yard run in the fourth. Thorstad finished with two touchdowns as well, while quarterback Jordan Frederick punched one in from half a yard out in the first half.
After being held to eight point in the opener, Osakis has responded with 76 points over the next two games to move to 2-1 on the young season.
