Letter - We could have avoided 9/11 attacks

Again we are mourning the loss of the people at the towers, and rightly so, but the sad fact is this need not have happened in the first place.

To the editor:

Again we are mourning the loss of the people at the towers, and rightly so, but the sad fact is this need not have happened in the first place. How can I say that? A few armed pilots in the cockpit would have made it impossible for the terrorists with box cutters to even try.

Well, we couldn’t have that, or could we? Many airline pilots were Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard pilots and in their off airline duty times, had to be armed in their aircraft, so they were qualified to government standards. How do I know? I was serving in the Air Force Reserve at that time and was the NCOIC of the firing range doing the training and qualifying.

So what stopped it? Sad to say a group of gun hating, power grabbing politicians came with all kinds of false and misleading reasons. The real problem is those people are still around and still trying to put the unbridled fear of firearms into the public.
