Doris was born November 10, 1919 in Vesta, the daughter of David and Caroline Henriksen. The family moved to Alexandria in 1920. Doris attended school in District 16 and in Alexandria.

On June 15, 1939 Doris was united in marriage to Melvin Christiansen. The couple made their home at Leaf Valley and were blessed with two daughters, Carolyn and Patricia. After retiring in 1967, Doris and Melvin moved to Alexandria. She owned and operated the Kwik Knit Shop in downtown Alexandria with her sister, Phyllis, for 12 years.

Doris worked at the DAC and the Chamber of Commerce. She volunteered her time at Knute Nelson and at the Senior Center. Doris was inducted into the Douglas County Older Americans Hall of Fame in 1992 for her community service.

She is survived by her two daughters, Carolyn Iverson and husband, Robert, of Andover, and Patricia Froemming and husband, Daniel, of Pillager; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Phyllis Mounsdon of Alexandria.

Her parents; husband, Melvin Christiansen; three brothers, Milton, Raymond and Harry Henriksen; and a sister, Alda Dau, preceded Doris in death.

A funeral service was held Friday, September 14 at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria. The Rev. David Hinz and the Rev. William Moeller officiated. Stephanie Tewes provided music. Interment followed at Hudson Cemetery in Hudson Township. Casket bearers included Kellen Riley, Keith Mounsdon, Craig Mounsdon, Gary Hitchcock, Ken Riley and Ray Dau.
