Phyllis was born December 24, 1927 in Alexandria, the daughter of Hilder and Agnes (Erickson) Berglund. She grew up in Alexandria and helped her father at the Berglund Grocery Store. She graduated from Central High School in 1946.

Phyllis married Lewis Mattocks on January 9, 1947 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. They lived in Nelson and three children were born, Brian, Dan and Judith. Phyllis stayed at home to raise her children in their younger years. She then began to work for the Ludke Company in Alexandria as a bookkeeper and retired after 22 years with the company. Phyllis and her family moved to Alexandria to a new home in 1975.

Phyllis was a kind, loving, and compassionate woman, who found the good in everyone she met. She was a wonderful cook and she loved to bake. Two of her specialties were homemade bread and flat bread. The most important ingredient in her bread was that it was made with “Lots of Love.”

Phyllis was always gracious and courteous to people, always extending a compliment to someone. Phyllis loved her family dearly. She lovingly made “Care Baskets” for her family during Christmas. Items included apple pie, homemade bread, toilet paper, bacon, and eggs. She also made many quilts for her family and the "Jingle Bells" telethon. She kept notes since 1947 about special events throughout her life. She also had a sharp mind and was able to remember names and dates of special events in her family’s lives. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Lewis Mattocks of Alexandria; daughter, Judith (Gerald) Radford of Nelson; son, Brian (Candace) Mattocks of St. Peter; grandchildren, Aaron, Jeremy, Cody, Kirby, Noah (Becky) and Christopher; four great-grandchildren; two grand-nephews, Travis and Terrence; and brother, Earl (Donna) Berglund of Carlos.
