A pair of Legislative Candidate Forums will be taking place in Alexandria this fall.

The goal is to provide Douglas County area residents with the opportunity to meet and learn about the Minnesota House and Senate candidates vying to represent the area.

These candidate forums are non-partisan and are being designed as an educational opportunity for local voters.

They are being organized by the Alexandria Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and Alexandria Area Economic Development Commission (AAEDC) and will be hosted by Alexandria Technical and Community College (ATCC).

Two events are scheduled:

•Minnesota State House Candidates Forum for Districts 8B, 12A and 12B will take place Monday, October 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the ATCC, Room 743.

Candidates include: District 8B – Mary Franson (Republican) and Bob Cunniff (DFL); 12A – Dave Holman (Independence), Scott Dutcher (Republican) and Jay McNamar (DFL); 12B – Paul Anderson (Republican) and Rick Rosenfield (DFL).

•Minnesota State Senate Candidates Forum for Districts 8 and 12 will take place Monday, October 15 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the ATCC, Room 743.

Candidates include: District 8 – Bill Ingebrigtsen (Republican) and Dan Skogen (DFL); District 12 – Torrey Westrom (Republican) and John Schultz (DFL).

Although all candidates were invited to the forum, the Chamber and the AAEDC have not yet received confirmations from all of them.

These forums are open to everyone and are free of charge.

Because of district boundary changes, residents are encouraged to learn who their candidates are and what they represent along with finding out where their polling places are prior to the November 6 election.

An easy way to find out is to go to the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website, www.sos.state.mn.us and click on “Elections and Voting.” From there, click on “Find Your Polling Place.” You can also find out whether you are registered to vote.
