Volleyball: West Central Area goes 1-2 at Wheaton
The West Central Area volleyball team finished 1-2 at the Wheaton Tournament this past weekend after beating Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley in the final match of the weekend.
The Knights fell 2-0 to Ortonville and 2-1 to Wheaton-Herman-Norcross before getting that win against CGB. Holly VanKempen was named to the all-tournament team for WCA after she ended the day with 11 blocks and eight kills.
“From the start of the day to the finish, our performance did improve,” head coach Beth Hanson said. “But I know we are capable of more. I truly believe these girls can reach a higher level of play, and we will keep working until we get there. It was nice to end the day with a win.”
The Knights were 1-3 outside tournament play through their first four matches. They fell to Underwood and Hancock in 3-0 matches before beating Ashby 3-1 last Tuesday. They then fell to Royalton in a five-set match last Thursday.
