Volleyball: Brandon-Evansville falls to Underwood
The Brandon-Evansville volleyball team fell victim to an Underwood team that has yet to drop a set this season through three matches after a 3-0 sweep against the Chargers last Thursday night.
Brandon-Evansville couldn’t get much of anything going against the Rockets. Underwood held the Chargers off 25-17 in the first before running away with 25-10 wins in the next two sets to complete the match.
“We ran into a very strong Underwood squad that is solid in each rotation and is well coached,” Brandon-Evansville head coach Kelly Olson said. “We had a mixture of good play and bad throughout the match. I know the girls want to put a solid performance out there, but our inconsistent serve receive and struggles serving our own balls showed up on the scoreboard. That being said, you have to give credit to Underwood. They played very well and put the pressure on us right away and never let up.”
The Rockets’ front line of Kaitlyn Holen, Carly Masloski and Megan Biegler combined for 27 kills. In turn, Underwood allowed Brandon-Evansville to connect on just nine kill opportunities.
Megan Friedrich led that attack with five kills. Caroline Jansen added three and Emma Friedrich had one. Kinsley Randt had five assists and Megan Kokett led the defense with 13 digs.
“We are a good practice team,” Olson said. “I am excited to see that transition from practices to matches. We just need to keep our focus on the larger goal of building and learning from each match, so by the end we put ourselves in a position where we can be successful.”
