Tennis: Osakis now 10-0

The Osakis tennis team upped its winning streak to 10 straight matches and got some well-deserved statewide respect in the process as the Silverstreaks were ranked seventh in the latest Class A state rankings.

Osakis’ big win over now 12th-ranked Staples-Motley last Tuesday was followed by a 6-1 win over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle two days later. Four of the six wins came in straight sets for Osakis. Taylor Kraemer, Lauren Silbernick and Alexa Hoffarth all won in two.

Hannah Baker had to go an extra set in her match at third singles. She won 6-2 in the first before Brooklyn Levin came back with a 6-2 win in the second. Baker answered in the third, winning 6-1 to help her team sweep through the singles lineup.

Peyton Garcia and Hannah Szech also needed three sets to take care of business at second doubles. They bounced back from a 4-6 loss in the first to take their match against Payton Long and Jenna Abraham 6-4, 7-5 over the final two sets. Elyse Wiener and Katelyn Foster needed just two to take care of their opponents at third doubles.

Osakis is the highest ranked area team in the latest polls. Blake sits atop the Class A rankings, while St. James, Breck and St. Paul Academy round out the top four.
