Football: BOLD blanks Lakers

The Minnewaska football team managed just 138 yards of total offense as BOLD ran away with a 35-0 win over the Lakers last Friday night.

“The score doesn’t look like it, but I think we improved from week one to week two,” Minnewaska head coach Steve Hill said. “We were fundamentally more sound than previously, most of the time. We still made some key mistakes, especially in the late first quarter and the second quarter. We gave BOLD a short field during that time.”

The Warriors took advantage of that by building a 28-0 lead by the break. Jake Amundson finished with 115 yards on 6-of-13 passing for Minnewaska, but the Lakers were held to 19 yards rushing on 26 carries though.

“We need to get our running game functioning much better,” Hill said. “I’m sure that we will, but we can’t waste any more time. We need to be more physical.”

Jayden Beecher led the team with three receptions and 53 yards. Austin Ostrander added two catches for 44 yards. The defense was led by Nathan Snider with seven solo and seven assisted tackles. Jack Schultenover added an interception for Minnewaska as well.

The Lakers will try to get their first win in week three when they travel to Grove City to take on ACGC this Friday at 7 p.m. The Falcons are 1-1 after beating Lac qui Parle Valley 40-13 last week.
