Cross country: West Central Area's VanKempen first at Detroit Lakes

Freshman Abby VanKempen and junior Kylee Fernholz finished first and third respectively at the Detroit Lakes Invitational cross country meet Thursday, while junior Alex Toms was second in the boys’ division.

VanKempen ran for a time of 16:32, while Fernholz finished in 17:06. The Knight girls did not field a complete team.

Toms finished in 18:33 as the Knight boys’ were fifth overall, with Pelican Rapids winning the boys’ team title.
