Card girls' swimming and diving: Alexandria slices past Sauk Centre

It was close, but it was a win as the Cardinal girls edged out Sauk Centre in the pool Thursday night 95-91.

“The Cards won five of 12 events, while outscoring the Mainstreeters in six,” said head coach Mark Storhaug. “Although that doesn’t sound like it would add up, Alex outdid the Streeters big-time in two events, which turned out to be one of the keys to winning.”

Alexandria got individual wins from Jenna Kremer in diving with 127.95 points, Madalyn Winger in the 500 free in 6:08.31, Kalli Bowser in the 100 back in 1:07.11 and Megan Bristow in the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.90.

“The foursome of Bowser, Hannah Eklund, Winger and Beth Burnham also took the 200 medley relay to kick off the evening’s contest,” said Storhaug.

Alexandria saw nine season bests in Thursday’s meet as Bowser and Hannah Lindgren each had two.

“Lindgren’s time in the 500 free was five seconds better than her previous best this season,” said her coach.

Alexandria will now host St. Cloud Apollo tomorrow, Thursday.
