Card volleyball: Alexandria rebounds for win over Sartell

The Alexandria volleyball team bounced back from its first loss in the Central Lakes Conference to beat Sartell 3-1 last Thursday night.

The Cardinals battled back from a slow start to take the first set 25-19. The Sabres dominated the second with a 25-12 win before the Cardinals refocused for 25-16 and 25-11 wins over the next two sets to close things out.

“After Tuesday night’s loss to Fergus, the girls still have the goal of CLC champs in mind,” head coach Becky Schlichting said, “which means they need to be solid and prepared for every other CLC match the remainder of the season. [Sartell] was a great example of what we can do when they’re focused and what can happen when they’re not.”

Amanda Christianson continues to lead the Alexandria offense. She finished with nine kills and added three blocks on defense. Tara LeBrasseur was right behind her with eight kills and Emily Kuennen and Natalie Watkins had five apiece.

Allie Noetzelman set up the offense with 19 assists. Watkins and Shanee’ Herd led the defense with 21 and 18 digs, respectively.
