The Alexandria Area Community Foundation (AACF) recently announced that it awarded grants to 15 local nonprofit organizations in its annual grant round to support key community programs. AACF, an affiliate of the Central Minnesota Community Foundation, awarded more than $28,000.
The recipients are:
--Alexandria Dollars for Scholars, for scholarships, $4,000
--Birthright of Alexandria, for “My Friend’s Closet: A Project of Birthright of Alexandria,” $2,500
--Caring Hands Dental Clinic, for expansion, $2,000
--Douglas County Hospital, for the “Fitness for All” project, $2,500
--Habitat for Humanity Douglas County, for critical home repairs, $5,000
--Junior Achievement of the Upper Midwest, for Alexandria Area Junior Achievement Programs, $2,000
--Lakes Chamber Music Society, for the “Festival of the Lakes Chamber Music Concerts: Benjamin Britten Centenary,” $1,200
--Minnesota Lakes Maritime Museum, for the “Community Volunteers Recognition Project,” $1,000
--Runestone Museum Foundation, for hand-held audio guides, $1,000
--Rural AIDS Action Network, for HIV outreach and education, $1,000
--Village Family Service Center, for community based social skills program, $500
--United Communities Advocating Non-Violence, to support October Domestic Abuse Events, $2,000
--United Way of Douglas and Pope Counties, for Traveling Tree House educational materials, $1,000
--Windmill Project, for family directed services, $850
--Wings Family Supportive Services, for the PLUS Kids and Transitional Housing Programs,” $1,500
The AACF is a public charity that attracts and administers charitable funds for the benefit of the local community. Since 1992, AACF has helped fund activities that improve the quality of life in the Alexandria Area.
