Letter - Romney's energy plan takes us backward

Just when we thought we were making some progress in developing a national energy policy to reduce our use of fossil fuels (23 congressmen now support the carbon fee and bonus plan HR3242), Mitt Romney has published an energy plan that does just the opposite

To the editor:

Just when we thought we were making some progress in developing a national energy policy to reduce our use of fossil fuels (23 congressmen now support the carbon fee and bonus plan HR3242), Mitt Romney has published an energy plan that does just the opposite. Romney has completely ignored the advice of his chief economist, Greg Mankiw, who supports a carbon tax.

Romney’s plan is the latest version of “drill, baby, drill,” blessing all that’s wrong with the fossil fuel industries.

Romney wants to cut the regulations that protect us from the worst industry practices. Worst of all, Romney vows to eliminate the new EPA regulations on coal-fired utilities. Eliminating this essential step to protect our health and reduce carbon emissions is further evidence that Big Coal and Big Oil are calling the shots in the Romney plan. It’s reported that Koch oil companies alone have pledged $50 million for the Romney campaign.

Romney likes tax giveaways for oil, coal and gas, but not the subsidies for clean energy. Ever hear of a level playing field, Mitt?

Sensible Republicans and Independents must act. Mail, phone, e-mail or withhold contributions. Take action now to stop the madness.
