Girls' tennis: Osakis edges seventh ranked Staples-Motley
The Osakis tennis team took advantage of an opportunity to prove itself against another strong team in Class A with a 4-3 win over seventh-ranked Staples-Motley on Tuesday.
“All of our girls played well against a very strong opponent,” head coach Ryan Maddock said.
The Silverstreaks took care of business in three of the four singles spots to set the tone. Angie Bowman and Katie Anderson then got the decisive win in the doubles lineup with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 win at the first spot against Ann Kautto and Maggie O’Keefe.
Lauren Silbernick started the season in that first doubles spot but moved into the second singles role to earn a 6-3, 6-3 win on Tuesday. Hannah Baker and Alexa Hoffarth followed suit with straight-set victories as well.
“Lauren, Hannah and Alexa played great in picking up wins today,” Maddock said. “And Angie and Katie played one of our best doubles matches of the season in getting a big three set win at No. 1 doubles.”
The win helped the Silverstreaks remain perfect on the season at 9-0.
“We are very pleased with how everyone is playing,” Maddock said, “and are looking to keep making improvements as the season progresses.”
