Volleyball: Brandon-Evansville tops Battle Lake in five

A five-set marathon went in favor of the Brandon-Evansville Chargers Tuesday night as they handed Battle Lake a Little Eight Conference loss 3-2.

“It was great to get our first win of the season tonight against Battle Lake, who was extremely resilient,” said Charger head coach Kelly Olson. “A very exciting match that saw close play throughout, culminating in a 19-17 final set for us. I was very happy to see smiling faces at the end.

“We did improve on our overall play from Henning. We served tough, but too inconsistent. We did get some aces, but only served a little more than 84 percent. We were in the black on our hitting percentage, but need to be more aggressive in tighter situations. On defense and block, we did a good job tonight, and probably won us this match.

“We are growing every day that we are together,” Olson said. “I see most of the girls accepting their roles on this team, and as soon as everyone thinks team first, we will be even more successful.”

Megan Friedrich had 17 kills for the Chargers in the win while Kinsley Randt added 24 set assists and Megan Kokett had 28 digs.

The Chargers will be at the Browerville tournament tomorrow, Saturday, and will host Ashby on Tuesday.
