Elroy Ferdinand Beulke, 83, passed away on September 1, 2012.
Elroy was born October 21, 1928 to Carl and Emma (Roth) Beulke in Carlos Township.
Elroy grew up on the family farm, two miles north of Carlos. He attended eight years of schooling at District 30 schoolhouse. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Carlos.
Elroy served in the Army, where he was stationed in Alaska and drove bus.
Elroy married Frances Tonn on August 5, 1951. Their marriage was blessed with two children, a son Roy and a daughter Rose. After 50 years of marriage, Frances passed away on October 30, 2011.
Elroy took on various jobs, hauling milk cans and livestock, working in the meat locker, but the job that Elroy is most remembered for is the years he spent working at Beheng Implement, working on farm equipment and fixing tires. As our community changed, Elroy changed too. He spent his last working years mowing lawns for Alex Irrigation.
Elroy enjoyed helping the community. He served on the Carlos City Council for 21 years, and the Carlos Fire Department for 41 years, where he served as fire chief for a number of years. Elroy was a proud member of the Carlos Lions Club. He was recognized nationally by the Lion’s Club organization and presented with the Melvin Jones Fellow award for his service to his community. Elroy was also someone well recognized with Trinity Lutheran Church of Carlos. As an usher for many years, he would be the first person to greet worshipers and it was rare that he ever missed a service.
Elroy’s hobbies included his garden, making horse radish, hunting, fishing for sunfish and mowing lawns.
Elroy was preceded in death by his wife, Frances (Tonn) Beulke; parents, Carl and Emma (Roth) Beulke; his sisters, Marie Brechbiel, Ruth Beulke and Elsie Jantzen; and twin brother, Ed Beulke.
Elroy is survived in death by his sister, Gladys and husband the Rev.
