Marlys Mary Kuhne, 75, Farwell, died Monday, September 3, 2012 at Bethany Home in Alexandria, after battling cancer for four years.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 8 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Holmes City with the Rev. Denise Croskey officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Jan Myhr and vocalist, Dedra Zwieg. Burial will take place at Rose Hill Trinity Cemetery, Holmes City. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Marlys was born September 23, 1936, to George and Esther (Robinson) Kuhne in Miltona Township, Douglas County. She attended school in Miltona and high school in Alexandria. She lived and worked on a family farm in Miltona Township from 1952-1989, where she raised five children, Denise Klein, Diane Davies, Bert Pexsa, Donald Pexsa and Ed Pexsa.
Marlys moved off the family farm in 1989, when she relocated to her lake home on Mill Lake in Farwell. Marlys worked at Fingerhut in Alexandria prior to achieving her GED. She continued her education at Alexandria Technical College, where she studied and received a degree in accounting. Marlys worked at Farmer Home Administration from 1990 until her retirement in 2001.
She was a former member of the Miltona VFW Auxiliary, and former Sunday school teacher at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie. Marlys loved to be surrounded by family. She loved to read books, garden, fish and knit. She loved to play board and card games with her family, and was known as a wiz at Trivial Pursuit and Carrom.
Marlys will be remembered and missed by her children, Denise (Richard) Klein of Carlos, Diane Davies of Edina, Bert (Kathy) Pexsa of Miltona and Ed Pexsa of Alexandria; eight grandchildren, Wendy (Marc) Townsend of Grey Eagle, Kelly (Matt) Garlinghouse of Omaha, Nebraska, Grant (Cami) Pexsa of Alexandria, Kyle (Maria) Klein of Abilene, Texas, Laurie (Mike) Maras of Alexandria, Ryan (Kelley) Pexsa of Parkers Prairie, Trevor Klein of Crystal and Colin Davies of Edina; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sharon Revering of Alexandria and Kathy (Philbert) Larson of Henning; two brothers, Harold (Ann) Kuhne of Parkers Prairie and George (Kathy) Kuhne Jr. of Miltona; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Marlys was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Arnold Kuhne; three sisters, Lucille Vogt, Beatrice Wesley and Ann Zuehlke; son, Donald Pexsa on October 25, 1991; and grandson, Jason Pexsa on February 10, 2004.
