Alexandria’s Shawn Nelson and Full Nelson Promotions hosted what it hopes is the first of many mixed martial arts (MMA) events in Alexandria at the Rumble in the Lakes event on August 24.

Sixteen amateur fighters, many from the Alexandria area, took to the cage at the Runestone Community Center in front of a lively crowd. Of the eight fights on the card, four were decided by TKO.

Travis Sykes knocked out Marc Hummel in their match. Gary Granholm won by TKO over Tyler Larsen, Jake Immell did the same to PJ Neurer and Cody Pahan knocked out Jay Paulson to win his fight.

The next Full Nelson Promotions event will take place at Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen on October 19.
