Card girls' swimming and diving: Sartell sinks Alexandria

The Alexandria swimming and diving team ran into the defending state champions on Thursday night and found out that Sartell hasn’t lost much in a meet that the Sabres ran away with 120-65.

Sartell cruised from the get-go on its way to 11 out of the 12 first-place finishes on the night. Alexandria’s only win came from Hannah Eklund as she took the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.24.

The Cardinals also came away with three second-place finishes. Megan Bristow did so in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:11.29. The 200-medley relay team of Kalli Bowser, Eklund, Madalyn Winger and Beth Burnham did the same, while Winger, Kate LeBrasseur, Bowser and Rachel Peterson were second in the 400-freestyle relay.

“There were also nine season best performances,” head coach Mark Storhaug said. “Improvement leaders were Sam Ellis, who shaved off 11 seconds in her 500 free (6:23.82); Jenna Kremer raising her diving total by 15 points (137.10) and Eklund’s two second drop in the breaststroke.”

The Cardinals fell to 0-2 with the loss and 0-1 in Central Lakes Conference action. They will try to rebound tomorrow night, Thursday, when they travel to Sauk Centre.
