The Ashby volleyball team will rely on a lot of young athletes again this season after going 3-7 in the Little Eight Conference a year ago.
The Arrows have just one senior on the roster in captain Meg Roley. She is joined by returning letter winners Amber Sundal (RS/L), Paige Nelson (MB) Bailey Funkhouser (OH), Alexis Ness (MB), Madison VanSanten (RS) and Cassandra Jordan (RS/L) as the players expected to help lead the way for this team.
“This is a very good nucleus of athletes who leave it on the floor every night,” 26th-year head coach Brenda Johnson said.
The Arrows will also rely on a large group of freshmen and sophomores to provide a spark if called upon this year. It’s a team that Johnson said lacks the height they will see from a lot of other teams.
“What [they] give up in height and experience, they gain back in hard work and attitude,” she said. “The Arrows will be looking to serving and defense to be their strengths this season. Without the height that most opponents have, we have to make sure our girls are defensively ready to dig up the big hits.”
