The Brandon-Evansville volleyball team opened the season with a 3-0 loss to a Henning team that finished 2011 with a 24-5 record.
The Hornets asserted themselves early in the first game with a 25-8 win. The Chargers bounced back to push them to a 28-26 game in the second before Henning put things away 25-15 in the third.
“We had a tough start to the year tonight against a good Henning team,” first-year head coach Kelly Olson said. “We served in only 83 percent with no aces. We hit negative for the match, and our passes were not getting to [setter] Kinsley [Randt] enough to run an effective offense.”
Randt finished with 10 assists on the night as Brandon-Evansville finished with 12 total kills. Megan Friedrich had five of those, while Caroline Jansen finished with four.
“I saw a lot of hustle in the last two sets,” Olson said. “With a bounce or two in that second set, we might have had a good match on our hands. We will continue to focus on the skills that will help us win down the road because I see this team only continuing to improve throughout the year. We just need to stay together as a team, work hard for each other and take care of the ball.”
