Letter - We prepare for war to maintain peace

Maybe now that the major media circus has subsided a bit, it is time for a few words of common sense about guns and their use or misuse. While the events themselves are horrific, the media use of every incendiary anti-gun word and picture they can think of just seems to add to the hurt.

To the editor:

Maybe now that the major media circus has subsided a bit, it is time for a few words of common sense about guns and their use or misuse. While the events themselves are horrific, the media use of every incendiary anti-gun word and picture they can think of just seems to add to the hurt.

The anti-gun hysteria they create is of no help. In fact, it can make things much worse, as in the Erik Scott incident in Las Vegas where just such a thing caused police to kill an innocent person. Now not only does the family of the victim suffer, but the officers have to live with the thoughts of what they did.

What else comes of the major media anti-gun thing? Look at what the general public does. Do they go turn in their guns after an event? Hardly. People realize that there are those who are going to cause trouble no matter what and that their own personal safety depends on their own diligence. The best in law enforcement cannot protect everyone all the time.

Many times just the presentation of a firearm by a would-be victim has stopped the problem without firing a shot. However, should worse come to worse, the use of deadly force is the only thing to stop it. We prepare for war to maintain peace.
