With the primary election over, voters can now turn their attention to the general election – and those who are running in local school and city races.
The filing period for those positions opened July 31 and closed Tuesday.
There will be more than a few local races spicing up the election.
The city of Alexandria will have a race for mayor. As announced earlier, Sara Carlson, who is currently serving as a city council member for Ward 2, is seeking the position and she will be opposed by Mark Pederson.
Two other Alexandria City Council positions up for election are also being contested. Owen Miller has filed for re-election in Ward 3 and will face William Stark, and Ward 5 incumbent Elroy Frank is being opposed by two candidates – Eric Karlstad and Todd Jensen.
The District 206 School Board in Alexandria will also have a race: Laura Knudsen and Angie Krebs are vying for Seat 7, which is currently held by Jim Hafdal, who is not seeking re-election.
Two other incumbents on the school board will face no challengers on the ballot – Pam Carlson for Seat 1 and Dave Anderson for Seat 6.
The general election will take place on Tuesday, November 6. Keep reading the Echo Press for more information about the candidates.
