Letter - Spread the word about LAR races

To the editor:

I am writing to you to discuss the disappointment in the turnout for the Holy Moly Ole race series. For a community the size of Alexandria, there is no reason for there to be fewer than 50 people at the last race on Saturday.

Naturally, with these events, the more people, the more enjoyable they are and the opportunity for more fundraising for youth programs at Lake Area Recreation. Area runners and businesses need to back such events and there needs to be better marketing.

I am an avid runner and spend a lot of time at the YMCA, on the Central Lakes Trail and at local retail establishments and rarely come across flyers on the event. I believe a website dedicated to the event (www.runholymolyole.com is available) would be a great idea, along with the creation of a Facebook page where race information can be posted as well as runners being able to interact with each other.

So whether you are an avid runner or just trying to burn some calories, start spreading the word and support your community!
