The Unity Foundation invites everyone to attend the monthly Faith at Work lunch on Friday, August 17 at the Broadway Ballroom from noon to 1 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person.
The speaker this month is John Turnipseed. A former gang leader, pimp and drug dealer, he is now the director of The Fathering Center at Urban Ventures in the heart of the same Minneapolis that he and his family terrorized. His story provides a personal account of overcoming the effects of a violent, absent father and the downward spiral of gang life.
Today, 30 of Turnipseed's extended family members are in prison, 10 for first-degree murder. Turnipseed was sentenced to 10 years.
Through a 17-year journey, Turnipseed transformed into a community leader, pastor, speaker and facilitator. His life-changing turnaround fueled his passion for rebuilding relationships between fathers and their families.
Turnipseed and his Fathering Center team have now developed programs that reach more than 600 men and 200 women a year. His story demonstrates how faith, hope and forgiveness, backed up by persevering mentors and role models, are essential for real and relevant transformation.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at Mustard Seed Book Store or at the door.
