• The Edina Realty Foundation, which supports homeless related causes throughout Minnesota, western Wisconsin and Fargo, North Dakota, has awarded a grant to Habitat for Humanity Douglas County.

A large portion of grant money came directly from the realtors of Edina Realty’s Alexandria sales office as well as from Edina Realty itself. The Edina Realty Foundation provides financial support to organizations that provide housing and related services, such as counseling and medical care, to homeless children, families and individuals.

• During the seventh annual “Taking Action to End Hunger” campaign, Bremer Bank’s $50,000 matching gift was met and exceeded when donations increased nearly 32 percent over 2011.

Donations were made during the month of June through a combination of online giving and employee and client events. This year’s campaign raised $111,174 – up from last year’s record donation total of $84,614.

The 2012 campaign kicked-off with a music video created in partnership with a Minneapolis-based performance group, Rhythmic Circus. Bremer pledged to donate $1 for every view of the video, up to 15,000 views. In the end, the video garnered more than 8,500 views.

• Crystal Swenson, speech language pathologist at Douglas County Hospital, recently completed training and certification in Lee Silverman Voice Training (LSVT) LOUD training.

LSVT is a specialty voice/speech treatment technique for adults and children with motor speech disorders. Treatment is designed to meet the needs of individuals with Parkinson’s disease, stroke, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and Down syndrome.

• Noonan Sport Specialists (NSS) is proud to announce that certified personal trainer Dawn Coauette has completed the National Strength and Conditioning Associations Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists (CSCS) exam.

Coauette, originally from Fargo, North Dakota, graduated from the University of North Dakota with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1997 and from Alexandria Technical and Community College in 2012 with an associate of applied sciences degree in health and fitness.

The CSCS is a rigorous exam comprised of two sections: Scientific Foundations, with areas such as exercise science and nutrition, and Practical/Applied, which focuses on exercise technique, program design, etc.

NSS is a year-round training facility that provides the foundation of functional strength and movement to improve the physical fitness and confidence of clients and athletes.

• Jim Delaney, financial advisor at Ameriprise Financial, recently completed 25 years of service with the company. As a financial advisor, Delaney specializes in retirement planning, income tax planning and estate planning for his clients.

• The Mental Health Association of Minnesota (MHAM) is pleased to present Joyce Pesch with the Gloria Segal Award for her work in improving the lives of people with mental illnesses. MHAM will present Pesch with the award at the third annual Celebrating Recovering mental health and wellness education event on Thursday, September 27 at the Ramada Plaza in Minneapolis.

Pesch is the program administrator for the Region 4 Adult Mental Health Consortium. She is recognized for her leadership in introducing new mental health services in West Central Minnesota, including Douglas County.

MHAM is a mental health advocacy and outreach organization that seeks to enhance mental health, promote individual empowerment, and increase access to treatments and services for persons with mental illnesses.
