Master gardeners scholarship applications accepted

The University of Minnesota Master Gardeners of Douglas County are currently accepting applications from adult learners for a $500 scholarship. The application deadline is August 15. The scholarship recipient will be announced August 31.

The University of Minnesota Master Gardeners of Douglas County are currently accepting applications from adult learners for a $500 scholarship. The application deadline is August 15. The scholarship recipient will be announced August 31.

To request an application, contact the University of Minnesota Extension office at (320) 762-3890, visit the Douglas County Service Center Building at 720 Fillmore Street, Alexandria or e-mail mnext-douglas@umn.edu.

The following is criteria for the scholarship:

--All information submitted must be typed and mailed before the deadline.

--Applicant should be pursuing a future in horticulture or horticulture-related career.

--Applicant must be a permanent resident living within a 40 mile radius of the Douglas County Courthouse.

--Applicant must provide a summary of education and career plans.

--Applicant must provide a summary of community or school activities he or she has participated in.

--Applicant must provide a letter of reference from a non-relative.

--The scholarship is currently $500.

---If awarded, 80 percent of the scholarship will be awarded before the class begins. The remaining 20 percent will be awarded upon completion of the course. Recipient will be required to submit a final report within 30 days of class completion to receive the balance of the scholarship.
