To the editor:
As a property owner by any lake in Douglas County, you have a major stake in the well-being of your lake. It is clearly demonstrated that property values correlate directly to the water quality and your lake association has the interest of your lake at heart.
The Lake L’Homme Dieu Association, like many other lake associations, has many faithful supporters. We also have numerous residents who have property values ranging from $300,000 to $1 million-plus, who feel that it is not important to be a financial supporter, regardless of how small a contribution is being asked. For whatever reason, the task of maintaining clean water in the lake is simply left for someone else to spend time and money on.
Like many other lake associations, the Lake L’Homme Dieu Association is involved with water quality testing. We are part of the receiving water from the ALASD plant discharge. Therefore, testing for phosphorous and chloride contributions is imperative. We are financial supporters of the Viking Sportsmen’s Club in restocking the walleye population in our lake.
With the invasion of zebra mussels, carp, curly leaf pond weed and most recently, the discovery of Eurasian watermilfoil, we certainly are not short of issues and concerns on our lake. It takes effort and dollars to control the spread of invasive species and to maintain good water quality.
Make the commitment to support quality water in our lakes and protect your property values by joining as a member of your lake association. Contact any board member of your association.
For Lake L’Homme Dieu, the annual membership is as follows: member - $35; sponsor - $50; patron - $100. Membership checks should be sent to: Lake L’Homme Dieu Association, PO Box 101, Alexandria MN 56308.
