Lake Geneva Christian Center (LGCC) has been a stronghold for families since it was founded in 1927.

As long as it’s been in operation, picturesque LGCC has been a haven for restoring and rejuvenating faith.

Something new will soon adorn the familiar campsite.

Construction is under way for a new building on the lakefront of the campsite. The building will consist of a dining hall and kitchen on the upper level and a meeting space for ministries on the lower level.

The previous dining hall was constructed in 1973, and as stated by LGCC Director Kevin Gunion, “We outgrew it years ago.”

Planning for the new building began 10 years ago, though construction only started last August.

“We have to pay as we go,” said Gunion.

LGCC relies on donations to continue the renovation, so if funds run dry, construction comes to a halt.

Construction is projected to cost $4.5 million, and approximately $3.5 million has been raised thus far.

Gunion is dedicated to ensuring the financial security of the camp.

“I need to make sure we run in the black,” he said.

The building will be constructed with the environment in mind.

“It’s going to be very economical to operate,” said Gunion. “We’ve done a lot of things that are really environmentally-friendly.”

Gunion expects the building to be enclosed by the first snowfall, and the project to be completed as funds allow.

Gunion has only donned the director hat for seven years, but LGCC has been a constant theme throughout his life. As a child, he attended family and kids’ camps every year, and continued to bring youth groups to LGCC when he pastored.

The camp staff consists of 15 year-round employees and approximately 85 seasonal employees. During the summer, children in grades 2-12 and families attend week-long camp sessions. Weekends are filled with other ministries using the facilities.

During the year, various operations take advantage of the expansive facilities. Events LGCC has held in the past include church retreats, the Jingle Bells Telethon, the Voyager sing-a-long, concerts and other various affairs.
