Resorters Golf Tournament: Pair of champs in Masters' field

Ron Clayton and George Cliff are among those battling for 2012 crown.

Perennial contenders Ron Clayton and George Cliff kicked off their Resorters week in fine form as both shot 75s on Monday to lead the field in the Men’s Masters’ Division.

Clayton, an eight-time Resorters champion from Sarasota, Florida, will take the top seed into play today as he faces 16th-seeded Butch Berg of Lakeville, who shot an 89 on Monday.

Cliff, a four-time Resorters champion from Mankato, will take on 15th-seeded Dick Montroy of Maple Grove today. Two-time Senior Division champion Dave Harris of Alexandria rounded out the top three qualifiers on Monday after shooting a 77 on his home course.

The Masters’ Division will get started on the 10th tee today with Clayton taking on Berg and Larry Petersen of Albert Lea battling Alexandria’s Mike Golden at 1:12 p.m.
